Rose Hugo Spritz

THE BELOVED SPRITZ WITH A SPECIAL GAME-CHANGING INGREDIENT ADDED - ROSE LIQUEUR!

Okay...I'll admit I've never been the biggest fan of an Aperol spritz. I'll drink it but will I have more than one? Probably never. A spritz that I will NEVER say no to, though? A Hugo Spritz.

And to be more specific - a rose Hugo spritz. They are calling the Hugo Spritz the drink of the summer but real ones know that she's ALWAYS been that girl.

This apertivo is an absolute delight and it doesn't get more refreshing than this...mint, lime, soda, and rose liquor. Just delectable. The rose is such a harmonious pairing with everything else required to make this spritz that at first sip, you'll also see why subbing out the elderflower liqueur (what is typically used in a Hugo Spritz) for rose liqueur is a no-brainer.

During the warmer months, I love to serve guests low-ABV options and this one is my FAVORITE. No spritz can come close to a Hugo Spritz in my book so take it from me...and make this recipe stat! You'll be beyond delighted at the taste and the best part? The hardest part is popping the champagne bottle without any spills. That is how easy this spritz is to whip up!

In terms of my preferred food pairings, the Hugo Spritz is often served as an aperitif- an alcoholic beverage that's usually served before a meal to get the appetite going! I truly think this is best served simply with some marinated olives from the olive bar at your local grocer or even some bread accompanied by your favorite dipping oil! Cheers!

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 1/2 oz of rose liqueur (I used Drillaud rose liqueur)

  • 6 mint leaves, plus more for garnish

  • 2 oz of sparkling water or club soda

  • 4 oz Prosecco (or more to taste)

  • 3-4 fresh lime slices, optional for garnish but highly recommended

DIRECTIONS

  1. Add the rose liqueur and mint leaves into a large stemmed wine glass. Gently muddle and let sit for 2-3 minutes for the flavors to combine.

  2. Add in your ice to fill half of the glass.

  3. Then, add the prosecco and the sparkling water to the top.

  4. Stir to combine and garnish with more mint and lime slices. I prefer serving this one with a straw!

~ Serves 1

Notes

  • There are a lot of great rose liqueurs on the market that are wonderful. The most commonly available brands found at Total Wine or BevMo are Drillaud or Combier Liqueur de Rose. Rose liqueur is not to be confused with Giffard Creme De Pamplemousse Rose Liqueur or Lillet Rose. Know that these are two very different liqueurs and if you have any questions, be sure to ask a seals representative at the store if you could use some help determining which one you need!

  • You can most definitely make this recipe with elderflower liqueur but I am telling you - a Rose Hugo Spritz is everything summer called for and more! :)
