Masala Coke Slushie

MY TAKE ON THE SUMMER FAVORITE IN SLUSHIE FORM!

My summer series has come to an end and wow...how much fun I've had bringing you a range of non-alcoholic, zero-proof, low-ABV, and booze-forward bevvies! I hope you've enjoyed this one as much as I have.

Creating series like these allows me to push the envelope when it comes to creativity and I absolutely love working on creating recipes that fit a theme. If it's not already clear, your girl LOVES a good theme. As this summer series comes to an end, I knew I needed to show up to show out for the last and final recipe in the series.

A perfect summer day in an Indian household typically calls for a Masala Coke. Black salt and chaat masala pack tang and FLAVOR when paired with Coca-Cola? Refreshing is an understatement. We're using spiced rum to add on the flavor promise and y'all...this one is one special recipe. I think masala coke pairs best when served with Indian street food. :) I am talking Vada Pav, Samosa Chaat, and Bhel Puri...my mouth is just watering as I type these suggested food pairings! On a hot summer day, all I ever want is a Coca-Cola (ice cold or bust), and this frozen masala coke spiked with spiced rum is summer in a glass. If you want to serve this without liquor, simply just omit the rum and that is all there is to it. Easy, right?

And while this series may be coming to a close, I STILL have a lot more amazing recipes coming your way in the next few weeks as we soak up these remaining beautiful summer days. Stay tuned! In the meantime, please do let me know if you've made any recipes from my summer drink series and which of them you've particularly loved if so! I'd love any and all feedback you may have for me - it truly fuels me and I take it to heart when creating more series for y'all! Cheers!

INGREDIENTS

  • 6 oz Coca-Cola (I used the kind in the glass bottle), frozen into ice cubes

  • 1/4 teaspoon of black salt

  • 1 teaspoon of chaat masala

  • 1.5 oz spiced rum (I used Kraken)

  • 1 oz lime juice, freshly squeezed

  • Lime wheel, optional for garnish

  • Mint, optional for garnish

DIRECTIONS

  1. Begin by freezing your Coca-Cola into an ice cube tray of your liking. Trays vary in size but for a typical ice cube tray, each well holds roughly 1 oz of liquid.

  2. Freeze your tray for at least 4 hours or overnight to ensure that the coke is frozen solid.

  3. When ready to prepare your slushy, simply add your coke ice cubes (6 oz equivalent), black salt, and chaat masala to the blender.

  4. Blend for 15-20 seconds until the spices are incorporated and then add in your spiced rum and freshly squeezed lime juice.

  5. Blend again for roughly 40-50 seconds, or until your desired slushy consistency is reached.

  6. Pour into a chilled coupe glass and garnish with a lime wheel and a spring of fresh mint before serving. Serve immediately!

~ Serves 1

Notes

  • Please use a high-powered blender for this recipe. The frozen coke cubes will only slushify with the right equipment so be sure you have the necessary tools before trying this recipe!

  • I mentioned this above in the description, but you can simply omit the spiced rum.

  • If using rum, note that there is a difference between light, dark, and spiced rum. I've tried both when making this recipe and think spiced rum (which is infused with spices like nutmeg and cinnamon) pairs best with the chaat masala and black salt used in this recipe. You can use whichever you prefer but wanted to be sure to note.

  • Do not blend the coke if it is not frozen completely. This goes without saying but carbonated beverages do NOT belong in your blender! Be sure to make sure the cubes are frozen before blending!
