OR IN OTHER WORDS, THE MARGARITA OF THE SUMMER Y'ALL!
Raise your hand (or rather glass) if you love avocados. And when we say LOVE...that means you go to Costco to just buy a bag of avocados kind of love. Speaking of, Costco avocados are elite and there is so much satisfaction that comes from cutting one of these open.
I am lucky enough to live in California and best believe if something has avocado on the menu, I am 99% sure I am ordering that on the menu when out.
So it's a big deal that this is my first avocado cocktail on the blog! Better late than never and how perfect for my summer drink series. Yes, they are available year-round but avocados happen to be in season in mid-summer in California and peak production happens to fall during June and August.
Beyond timing being near perfection, who doesn't love a margarita in the summer? Well if you are reading this, you agree but seriously - there is something about sitting on a patio, with your bestie, a big basket of chips, and some salsa. Goodness, I am calling my best friend the second I press publish on this blog post!
Speaking of enjoying summer to the fullest, I often love whipping up an avocado chaat masala salad for lunch during the summertime. It's easy to whip up and my ideal lunch when working from home since I can put it together in a few minutes and am immensely satisfied. So yes...my inspiration comes from avocado chaat for this recipe and I am needless to say...VERY excited for you to try it! I have many sources of inspiration on the daily but it just makes me the happiest when a simple WFH lunch takes the cake and the result is this: a DELICIOUS margarita that is lip-smacking good!
I love serving this with some chaatchos (get my recipe here!) but this paired with bhel puri, papdi chaat, sev puri...all will be surefire winners! Also, while pairing with your favorite chaat may be a no-brainer, don't shy away from enjoying this one with a main course. Dishes with a smoky component (think baingan bharta or tandoori chicken) would be fantastic! If serving during brunch, you cannot go wrong with a spicy potato hash - preferably with a fried egg on top! :) Enjoy!

INGREDIENTS
2 oz reposado tequila (I used Tromba)
1 oz lime juice, freshly squeezed
1 oz avocado puree (freshly made or storebought works just fine)
1/2 oz of Cointreau (or any orange liqueur of your liking)
1/4 oz of maple syrup and extra for rimming the glass or your sweetener of choice
Chaat masala for the rim, and extra for garnish (I used Roopak)
Avocado slice, optional for garnish
DIRECTIONS
If making your avocado puree at home, simply combine one avocado with a bit of water (adding a teaspoon of water at a time ONLY if needed) in a blender! Blend for 20 seconds until smooth. There you have it - avocado puree! Store in the fridge for 3-4 days in an airtight container if not using immediately.
Rim your glass with a little bit of maple syrup and dip it into chaat masala to coat the rim. Set aside.
To a cocktail shaker, add in your tequila, lime juice, avocado puree, Cointreau, and maple syrup.
Add ice and shake for 20-30 seconds.
Add ice to your margarita glasses and then double-strain your margarita into your glass. It is incredibly important to DOUBLE-STRAIN since we are using avocado in this recipe and want to be sure that no bits of avocado get into the glass.
If desired, garnish with a small piece of avocado dipped in chaat masala on a cocktail pick. Cheers!
~ Serves 1
Notes
It is incredibly important to double-strain this margarita! Typically, I think it is okay to just strain once when making a margarita but given the choice of avocado in this...we need to be extra mindful!
I used a reposado to get the flavor that I wanted when making this recipe but you can most definitely use blanco. My biggest hack is using reposado when making margaritas. Trust - you will never go back once you do so do yourself a favor and buy it the next time tequila is on the shopping list. :)
You can most definitely sub maple syrup and use any sweetener i.e. agave or simple syrup but I love the flavor profile of maple syrup. It's pretty distinctive but the notes of cinnamon and vanilla lend themselves beautifully to this cocktail since we are using chaat-masala on the rim to pack a punch with each sip!
These beautiful glasses were gifted to me by Casa Amarosa, an Indian-American homeware brand that I adore. Please find the link to the glasses here and use my code (TASHMASHUP10) on your orders. :)
